WBB | Mountaineers score a season high 79 against Parkside

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Colorado University scored a season-high 79 points defeating the University of Wisconsin-Parkside 79-65 for the Mountaineers' fourth-straight win.

Western improves to 7-2 on the season, the best start to a season for the Mountaineers since the 2007-08 season.

Once again, Western never trailed in Sunday's game. The Mountaineers scored 19 or more points in all four quarters.

At halftime, Western led the Rangers by 10 points, 38-28. Scoring 14 of those 38 first-half points was Samantha Coleman. Coleman finished the game with a career-high 22 points.

The Mountaineers extended the lead to 21 points midway through the third quarter. Wisconsin-Parkside cut the Western lead to eight points by the end of the third quarter, 58-50.

That lead was reduced to just three points midway through the fourth. With the game still in question, the Mountaineer offense scored 17 points in the final 5:31 to put the game out of reach.

Four Mountaineers scored in double figures. Katie Dalton and Jadyn Kanzler each added 13 points, while Chandler Willis scored 10 points to go along with Coleman's 22.

Willis led all players in rebounding, grabbing 10 for her second consecutive double-double this season.

The Mountaineer defense continued its dominant season, holding the Rangers to 25 percent (13-of-52) shooting from the field.

Conversely, Western made 28-of-58 shots from the field to shoot 48.3 percent against Parkside.

Sunday marked the final non-conference game of the season for the Mountaineers. Western returns to the court on Friday at home to host Black Hills State University.
