GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The baskets kept falling for Western Colorado University Men's Basketball at the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic. While the production may not have been as prolific as Friday, it was enough for Western to cruise to an 89-63 over defending NAIA National Champion, Graceland University.
A night after shooting lights-out in the first half, Western (3-3 0-0 RMAC) kept pace shooting 53% from the floor and 50% from three-point to knock off Graceland (6-2 2-0 Heart).
Western took the lead less than two minutes into the game and maintained it through the final buzzer.
While the buckets kept coming, the hot hands were a bit different as freshman
Cole Sienknecht posted a career high to lead all scorers with 20 points on the night. Sienknecht, shot 54% from behind the arc, nailing six three-pointers to pace the Mountaineers.
Following up on a dazzling 32 point performance,
Brady Subart tallied 17 points on 7-13 shooting from the floor.
Joining Sienknecht and Subart,
Quincy Harding posted 16 points as Western had three men score over 15 points on the game.
The final result looks like an offensive effort, but the Mountaineers forced the Yellowjackets into 25 turnovers while capitalizing on the other end. Western earned 34 points off turnovers in their 26 point victory.
In a balanced effort, Western hit the break up 43-24 while forcing Graceland into 12 turnovers in the first half.
Ten men played double-digit figures for Western as the Mountaineers cruised to their second victory of the weekend at the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic.
