COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Colorado University finished a road trip to the Front Range at University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Western could not overcome the home team as UCCS took the match in three sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-13.
Western (2-23, 1-16 RMAC) got down on defense as three players tallied more than five digs, but could not create enough offensive opportunities to take down UCCS (12-13, 10-7 RMAC).
Lyria Brook led the Mountaineer defense with 11 digs while
Hanna Hendrickson got under six balls and
Cammi Baumann recorded five more. Brooks 11 digs were her third best tally on the season.
Offensively,
Kathleen Kasel powered Western with eight kills on an impressive .462 hitting percentage. In the process, Kasel recorded nearly 40% of Western's kills on the match.
The Mountaineers were unable to slow a potent Mountain Lion attack that hit over .400 in both the first and third sets.
Western played their most balanced game in the first, but a slow start took its toll and the Mountaineers would not recover.
With one match remaining on the season, Western returns home to Paul Wright Gym to host Colorado Mesa University on Friday, November 2 at 7 p.m.
