GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University took a set from Westminster College on Friday night in Paul Wright Gym, but were unable to come away with the win, losing 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 13-25, 15-25).
 
Kathleen Kasel recorded a season-high 14 kills for the Mountaineers. Kasel had on five errors on 31 hitting attempts.
 
Western (2-18, 1-11 RMAC) bounced back after falling just short in the first set. The Mountaineers dominated the second set and were ahead 20-12 before finishing with a 25-22 set win to even the match at one set apiece.
 
Westminster (7-13, 5-7 RMAC) took the lead with a 25-13 win in the third set.
 
Neither team could gain control early in the fourth set, as the teams were tied at eight points. However, the Griffins went on a 6-0 run to go ahead 14-8.
 
The Mountaineers were unable to climb back into the match, falling 25-14 in the fourth and final set.
 
Western's 
Hanna Hendrickson recorded a team-high 37 assists, while 
Cammi Baumann led the team with 19 digs.
 
Westminster's Audrey Green led all players with 17 kills.
 
The Mountaineers out-blocked the Griffins 7-4 in the match.
 
Western will return to the court on Saturday when they host Dixie State University at 6 p.m. Admission is free for Saturday's match and all fans are encouraged to wear pink. Donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to Tough Enough to Wear Pink.
