MBB | Harding scores 37 in OT loss to UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS – At the end of regulation, Western State Colorado University and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs were tied at 90 points. Despite a 37 point performance by Quincy Harding, the Mountaineers were unable to defeat UCCS, falling 105-100 in overtime.
 
Friday night's game was the third overtime game played by Western (7-11, 5-7 RMAC) this season. The Mountaineers are 1-2 in those games.
 
The Mountaineers never trailed in the first half against UCCS (7-11, 4-8 RMAC). Western led by as many as 19 points as of the 7:17 mark of the first half.
 
Western took an eight point lead, 49-41, into halftime.
 
The second half began much like the first, with the Mountaineers dominating the pace. However, the Mountain Lions continued to fight and took their first lead of the game with 4:20 left to play.
 
Down one point with 33 seconds remaining, the Mountaineers put the ball into Harding's hands. The junior guard was fouled with five seconds left and went to the free-throw line. Harding made both giving Western a one point lead.
 
Harding led all players with a season high 37 points, making 11-of-15 (.733 percent) field goal attempts. Harding also made 12-of-13 free throws.
 
Following Harding's free throws, UCCS charged down the floor and a foul put Padiet Wang on the line, with a chance to win the game for the Mountain Lions. However, Wang only managed to get one free throw through the net and the two teams headed into overtime.
 
After a free throw from Brady Subart, Western earned a one-point lead with 1:19 left in overtime. The Mountain Lions then scored the next seven points and were ahead by six with seven seconds left.
 
Friday's game was the second time Western reached the century mark in scoring. Both times came in overtime games.
 
Ben Beauchamp also added 20 points for Western. It's the second straight game Beauchamp has scored 20 or more points.
 
Collin Smith and Subart also scored in double figures for the Mountaineers. Smith added 15 points, while Subart scored 13.
 
Western will look for redemption when they travel to Metro State University Denver Saturday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Denver.
