GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University volleyball hosted Adams State University on Saturday night in Gunnison. The Mountaineers battled the Grizzlies but were unable to come away with a win, falling in three sets (21-25, 23-25, 16-25).

Western (1-14, 0-6 RMAC) nearly took the first two sets from ASU (7-8, 3-3 RMAC). However, late pushes by the Grizzlies gave them the victory.

Nine different Mountaineers recorded kills against rivals ASU.
Kathleen Kasel led Western with seven kills, scoring a team high eight points.

In both the first and second sets, Western was only one point off the lead. In the first, the Mountaineers trailed 22-21 before the Grizzlies took the set. In the second, it was 24-23 before ASU scored the set-winner.

In the third set, Western was only down three, 13-10 before a 10-1 run by the Grizzlies put the set out of reach.

The Mountaineers had three players record double figures in digs. Led by
Lyria Brook's 15 digs, teammates
Hanna Hendrickson and
Logan Franek each added 11 digs.

Western will now begin a four-match road trip, starting at New Mexico Highlands University next Friday.
