GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University volleyball fought for every point on Friday night in Paul Wright Gym, but were unable to come away with a win against Chadron State College. The Eagles defeated the Mountaineers in three sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-23).

Western (1-11, 0-3 RMAC) pushed CSC (4-7, 1-2 RMAC) in every set on Friday. In the first set, the score was tied twice and Western was down only two points, 24-22, near the end of the set. However, the Eagles would get the crucial final point and take the first set 25-22.

In the second set, the Mountaineers and Eagles would find themselves tied three times. Unfortunately for Western, a late run by CSC gave them a 25-16 set victory.

The third set was the best set for the Mountaineers. Western got out to an early 7-3 lead, but a 5-0 run would give CSC a 12-9 lead midway through the set. The Mountaineers would fight back and tie the match at 16 points, and then take the lead 19-18.

Both teams then went back and forth with the Eagles leading at match point, ahead one, 24-23. A kill by CSC's McKenna Hartigan would give them the win, 25-23.

Jordan Eatwell and
Kaitlin Verhagen led the Mountaineers with seven kills. Eatwell and
Kathleen Kasel led the team with eight points each.

CSC's Dominika Senkerikova and Aijahnae Springs led the match with 10 kills each.

The Mountaineers will be back in action Saturday night against No. 14 Regis University at 7 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
