SALT LAKE CITY – Western State Colorado University volleyball was close to winning every set on Saturday against Westminster College. However, the Griffins got the better of the Mountaineers, winning in three sets (23-25, 20-25, 22-25).

After falling behind 11-9 in the first set, Western (1-10, 0-2 RMAC) scored the following six points to take a 15-11 lead. However, the Griffins would go on a run of their own, scoring seven straight points to retake the lead, 18-15.

The Mountaineers and Griffins would trade points, but WC (4-6, 1-1 RMAC) would come away with a first set victory, 25-23.

Much like the first set, Western got out to an 8-6 lead before the Griffins would go on a 6-0 run. It would ultimately be the difference in the set as they took the second 25-20.

In the third, Western was again out to a lead midway through the set, 12-7. A 7-0 run by WC put the Griffins on top 14-12. The two teams would find each other tied at 20 points before the Griffins scored four straight. WC would take the third set 25-22.

Jordan Eatwell led Western with eight kills. Teammate
Hanna Hendrickson recorded a team high 20 assists and
Logan Franek added 12 digs.

WC's Taylor Harvey led the match with nine kills.

Western continues the season next Friday for their home opening match against Chadron State College at 7 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
