FB | Eagles spoil Western's home opener

GUNNISON, Colo. – Chadron State College spoiled Western State Colorado University's home opener on Saturday. Mountaineer football fell to the Eagles 49-7 in week three.

Western (0-3, 0-3 RMAC) struggled moving the ball against CSC (2-1, 2-1 RMAC) early. Despite not getting a first down until the second quarter, the Mountaineers were still very much in the game going into the second quarter, down 15-0.

In the second quarter, fumbles got the better of Western. Down 22-0 with 2:15 left in the first half, the Mountaineers took possession. The Eagles forced three fumbles, recovering all three, taking a 42-0 lead into halftime.

There were 11 total fumbles on Saturday. Eight were attributed to Western, while CSC accounted for three.

Western scored their only touchdown of the game at the 2:56 mark of the third quarter. Quarterback Dylan Jacob ran the ball into the end zone from 10 yards out, making the score 42-7.

Jacob threw for 101 yards. In each of the three starts at quarterback by the true freshman, Jacob has thrown for over 100 yards.

Jonah Mitchell led the Mountaineer defense with 10 tackles and one tackle for a loss and a half sack.

Western will continue the season next Saturday at 12 p.m. in Golden, Colorado at the Colorado School of Mines.
