GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University volleyball senior
Jordan Eatwell eclipsed the 1,000 career kill mark on Tuesday in Paul Wright Gym. Eatwell needed just three to get to 1,000 career kills, but surpassed that mark with a match-high 12 kills against Colorado Mesa University.
Â
Eatwell hit 1,000 kills midway through the first set against CMU (15-6, 9-4 RMAC). In three of the last four seasons, the outside hitter from Fruita, Colorado has led the Mountaineers in kills.
Â
Her 12 kills in Tuesday night's match led all players, but wasn't enough to push Western (2-20, 1-12 RMAC) past CMU. The Mavericks defeated the Mountaineers in three sets (17-25, 13-25, 18-25).
Â
In the first set, Western was hitting at a .346 clip, but the Mavericks had a hitting percentage of .560. The Mountaineers' only lead of the match came on the first point of the first set.
Â
In both the second and third sets, the Mavericks got out to an early lead. Western was unable to counter and climb back into the sets after falling into a deficit.
Â
Eatwell also led all players in total points with 13. Along with her 12 kills, Eatwell had two block assists.
Â
The Mountaineers continue the home stand this Thursday against Westminster College at 7 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
