GOLDEN, Colo. – The Western State Colorado University volleyball team was on the road Friday night at No. 22 Colorado School of Mines. The Mountaineers were unable to pull off the upset, falling to the Orediggers 3-0 (16-25, 11-25, 10-25).

The match opened with Western (1-17, 0-9 RMAC) falling behind early in the set, 4-1. However, the Mountaineers came charging back and took a 9-8 lead.

After weathering the storm, CSM (15-3, 9-0 RMAC) would respond with an 8-1 run to regain the lead, 16-10.

Western continued the first set battle, but were unable to overcome the Oredigger run, falling 25-16 in set one.

After playing CSM close in the first set, the 22
nd ranked Orediggers took control of the match, winning the next two sets 25-11 and 25-10 respectively.

Kathleen Kasel led the Mountaineers in kills and points. Kasel recorded five kills and 2.5 blocks for 7.5 points during the match.

Western continues the season Saturday at 5 p.m. on the campus of Colorado Christian University.
