ALAMOSA, Colo. – Western State Colorado University mounted a comeback against rivals Adams State University, but fell in the fifth set (20-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 8-15). Western looks to recover tomorrow evening at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

The Mountaineers led another defensive battle until the end, holding Adams State to a .037 hitting percentage. Despite the defense, the offense came up short as the Mountaineers committed five errors in the final set to lose the match.

Molly Hothan led the attack with a dozen kills. She was joined by
Tori Gaherty and
Jordan Eatwell with 10 apiece. Also for the Mountaineers,
Maria Agazio put down nine kills.

Defense was the key for the Mountaineers, as the team had a season-high 15 blocks, led by
Avery Burkholder. Burkholder was a part of nine total blocks, two of which were solo. She was joined by Hothan and Gaherty with six total blocks, and Eatwell with five.

The few balls that made it through were cleaned up by
Logan Franek and
Amanda Maestas, who each tallied 18 digs.
