GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University men's basketball team fell to Colorado School of Mines Friday evening, 71-99, in the Paul Wright Gymnasium. The Mountaineers play their final home game of the 2015-16 season tomorrow evening against Colorado Christian at 7 p.m.

Mines (20-6, 15-5 RMAC) jumped out to an early first half lead, scoring 52 while shooting nearly 65 percent from the field. On the opposite end of the court, the Mountaineers (5-21, 4-16 RMAC) deep shooting was frozen, as the team missed all seven trey attempts. Western shot 40 percent from the floor in the first half, led by senior
C.J. Schutt's five of eight from the floor for 15 points and four boards.

The shooting problems counted into the second half, as Western shot only 37 percent from the floor for the game. The team was 84 percent from the foul line though, sinking 20 foul shots. Schutt finished as the team's leading scorer with 23 total points. He was the only Western athlete in double-digits.

Though the Mountaineers gave up 60 points in the paint, the team dominated the offensive boards, pulling down 18 offensive rebounds compared to just seven for Mines. Those boards turned into 22 second chance points to just 10 for the Orediggers.
