SWIM | Western opens season in Pueblo

GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University women's swimming and diving team will head to Pueblo to take on CSU-Pueblo Friday in the first dual of the 2016-17 season. The Mountaineers will host Colorado Mesa University at the end of the month for their first home dual on October 29th.

The women are coming off of an extraordinary Crimson and Slate pentathlon which featured every swimmer and also had two races under the current pool records. Both of those races came from sophomore Randi Yarnell, who would have been ranked 12th in the nation in the 100 free without altitude conversion (top-10 most likely with conversion), had there been another team present for the results to count. Yarnell's times in the 100 fly and 100 back would both be top-40 in the nation as well.

Also for the Mountaineers, Ma'alaea Lawrence won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.77, which would be 15th in the nation without altitude conversion.
