SALT LAKE, Utah – Western State Colorado University fell to new Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference member Westminster College Friday evening, 86-77, in Salt Lake City. The Mountaineers move on to take on Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction Saturday evening at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers kept it close in the first half, ending the half down one. Out of the break the Mountaineers scored a quick eight points to take their largest lead with 19 minutes remaining. The game featured three times and lead changes.

Senior
Danny Hopkins was the second-highest scorer in the game with 26 points. Griffin scorer Quincy Bair edged Hopkins by one point with 27. Hopkins was seven of 13 from the floor, including three of six from deep. The senior also sank nine shots from the foul line and tore down seven boards.

Ben Beauchamp scored 14 points, shooting five of 12 from the floor. C.J Schutt and
Robert Romero each chipped in 10 points, while
Will Duggan dished out six assists before fouling out of the game.

The Mountaineers held the Griffins to only four treys in the match, but subsided down low, giving up 38 points in the paint. Westminster also cleaned up 14 points worth of second chance shots, compared to five for Western.
