GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western State Colorado University men's basketball team fell to Colorado Mesa University, 62-89, Saturday evening in Grand Junction. The Mountaineers look to rebound with a home weekend against MSU-Denver and UCCS Friday and Saturday, respectfully.

Shooting troubles haunted the Mountaineers, as the team only sank three total deep balls. Western missed all 12 attempts in the first half before shooting three of 10 in the second half. Despite the deep ball not falling, center
C.J. Schutt made up for it to keep the game close in the first half. Schutt scored 20 points, shooting 10 of 16 while guarded by All-American Ryan Stephan. Schutt also tore down eight boards.

Danny Hopkins chipped in 11 points despite not making a trey, and
Pablo Barreiro added 10 points.

For the Mavericks, Stephan finished with 26 total points and 11 boards. He was accompanied by three other teammates in double-digits.
