GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's swimming and diving program fell victim to the University of Northern Colorado (184-115) and Colorado Mesa University (155-144) Friday evening. Western State will take two weeks to prepare for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in Grand Junction.
 
The Mountaineers, led by Randi Yarnell, won four events. Yarnell, who was a part of all four victories, won two individual events.
 
Yarnell dominated the midsprints with victories in the 100 free and 200 free. The freshman continues to shine and is the top ranked RMAC athlete in the 200 and the second ranked in the 100.
 
The Mountaineers won both the 400 medley relay and the 400 free relay. The medley of Yarnell, Ma'alaea Lawrence, Akemi King and Ariel Fitch was the first victory of the meet. The free relay of Fitch, Morgan Aragon, Lawrence and Yarnell closed the meet with a win.
 
With the meet format, second place finishes equaled victories over one of the teams. The Mountaineers had three second place finishes and six third place finishes. Lawrence was second in the 100 breast, with Marsolek close in third. Marsolek was also third in the 200 breast and 200 IM. France Ivers finished third in the 1,000 free, while Kate Hewson was third in the 50 free. Just ahead of Hewson in the 50 was teammate Fitch, who placed second in the 50 and third in the 100 free. The final second place finish belonged to Hannah Meehan in the 200 back.
