SWIM | Mountaineers down Orediggers

GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University women's swimming and diving team defeated Colorado School of Mines, 189-125, Saturday morning in Golden, Colorado. The Orediggers were the lone Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team from the state of Colorado to defeat the Mountaineers in competition, upsetting the No. 20-ranked Mountaineers by ten points last fall in the Maverick Invitational. Western remains perfect in duals this season, and only has one more event left before the conference meet.
 
The Mountaineers took home five individual victories on the second day after securing three in the first day. Western also won the final event, the 400 free relay.
 
Frances Ivers kicked things off with a win in the 1,000 by more than eight seconds. Kate Hewson won the 50 free in a time of 25.5. Ma'alaea Lawrence and Randi Yarnell both took their second victories of the meet in the 200 breast and 200 free, respectfully. Akemi King took home the win the in the 400 IM.
 
The final victory was the 400 yard free composed of Ariel Fitch, Morgan Aragon, Lawrence and Yarnell.
 
The Mountaineers return to action next weekend in a Multi-Dual hosted by Colorado Mesa. The University of Northern Colorado will also be present.
