GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University women's swimming and diving team will compete in a two day dual with Colorado Mines this weekend in Golden, Colorado. This will be the second multi-day meet for the No. 20-ranked Mountaineers this season, as the team prepares for the four day conference championships that will begin next month.
The Mountaineers finished a perfect home dual campaign with a defeat of Adams State University last weekend in the Paul Wright Natatorium. In the win, freshman
Randi Yarnell won three events, the 50 free, 200 free and 500 free. Yarnell is fourth in the nation in the 200, top-50 in the 50 free, and broke the pool record in the 500 free by more than ten seconds in her first attempt in the event.
The Mountaineers have 18 marks in the top-100 in the nation. The only teams to defeat Western in competition have been Cal-Baptist and Colorado Mines in the Maverick Invitational in November. Mines edged out Western for the second place spot by 10 points.
Western State dropped one spot in the DII Coaches poll to the No. 20-ranked team in the nation. Mines is unranked and not receiving votes, while Colorado Mesa is receiving votes, Cal-Baptist is the No. 6-ranked team and Lindenwood is the No.8-ranked team in the nation.
