GUNNISON, Colo. – The Western State Colorado University men's basketball team put together a late rally to pull within four of Chadron State but the Mountaineers were able to come out on top in a 94-83 loss Friday night at Paul Wright Gym.

Mason Biddle (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) led all scorers with a season-high 31 points along with four assists and four steals.
Devin Kastrup (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 16 points and a team-high seven boards while
Danny Hopkins (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) finished with 13 points.

The Mountaineers (3-17, 2-14 RMAC) were hot from the start, shooting 3-of-3 from behind the arc to grab a 9-0 advantage less than one minute into the game. However, the Eagles put together a run of their own with an 11-0 spurt in less than two minutes to go on top. Â

Neither team was able to take a comfortable lead through most of the first half until a 7-0 run by CSC in a span of 1:29 helped the Eagles (6-14, 5-11 RMAC) grab a 33-26 advantage with just over seven minutes to play in the half.

A three-pointer by Hopkins ended the Eagles run for a 33-29 score, but CSC was able to hold at least a five-point lead for much of the first half.

A jumper by CSC's Michael Safer gave the Eagles their first double-digit lead at 53-43 early in the second period.

The Eagles continued to stretch their lead as CSC began heating up from long range with Roderick Butler capping off a 9-2 run with a triple to make it 70-51 with less than 13 minutes to play.

Trailing by 17 with 10 minutes left, a layup by Kastrup began a 15-4 Mountaineer run that was capped off by a three-pointer from Hopkins to cut the Western deficit to 79-73 with five minutes remaining.

The Eagles pushed their lead back to double figures at 85-75, but Biddle scored four of the next six points for the Mountaineers to pull Western within four at 85-81 with 1:56 to play.

However, the Eagles closed out the game on a 9-2 run to take a 94-83 victory.

Kendrick Holliman led five CSC players in double figures with 21 points and 14 boards.

CSC shot 57.6 percent (34-of-59) from the floor and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from outside while Western finished with a 43.5 percentage (27-of-62) and 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from three-point range.

Western is back on the hardwood tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. when the Mountaineers host Black Hills State.
