GUNNISON, Colo. – The Western State Colorado University men's basketball team were within one basket of Black Hills State in the final minute, but the Yellow Jackets were able to hold on to their lead for a 65-57 victory Saturday night at Paul Wright Gym.
Â
The Yellow Jackets (8-16, 6-11 RMAC) jumped out to an 8-0 lead to begin the game before

Â
BHSU continued to hold at least a five-point advantage until a jumper by
Alex Eddy (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) made it 15-11 in favor of the Yellow Jackets with 11:31 to play in the first half.
Â
BHSU stretched its lead to 20-13 with less than eight minutes remaining in the period, but a three-point play by
Devin Kastrup (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) followed by a
Mason Biddle (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) jumper pulled the Mountaineers within a basket.
Â
Back-to-back triples by the Yellow Jackets made it 26-18, but Biddle was able to keep Western within reach with a layup just before the buzzer to make it 28-22 at halftime.
Â
After a Brody Brisk free throw gave BHSU its first double-digit lead at 34-24, the Mountaineers began to chip away at their deficit with three-straight triples to put the score at 34-33 with less than 15 minutes remaining.

Â
Both teams traded baskets over the next few minutes until a BHSU turnover on the Mountaineer press gave Western an opportunity to even the contest with 40 seconds to play. However, the Mountaineers were unable to muster up any more offense the rest of the game, falling 65-57.
Â
Kastrup led Western (3-18, 2-15 RMAC) with 17 points and eight boards while Biddle added 10 points and five assists.
