GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's swimming and diving team defeated Colorado State University Pueblo, 172-68, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual meet Friday afternoon in Paul Wright Natatorium. The team celebrated its first four year senior night since reinstatement for senior captain
Danielle Ginsburg before the meet.
The Mountaineers won 10 of 13 events in the meet, including eight of 11 individual events. The team broke two pool records in the process.
Individual winners were started with
Randi Yarnell in the 200 free. Yarnell also won the 100 free in a new pool record time.
Kate Hewson won the 50 free, while
Alexandra Marsolek won the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke.
Akemi King took a victory in the 200 fly, while
Hannah Meehan won the 200 backstroke.
Ashley Nguyen won the women's overall diving.
The other two victories came in the relays. The 200 medley relay of Yarnell,
Anissa O'Connell, Marsolek and Hewson won took the first victory. The 200 free relay of
Ariel Fitch, Hewson,
Ma'alaea Lawrence and
Morgan Aragon broke the pool record on the way to their win.
The Mountaineers take a long break, coming back to competition next year when they host Adams State on January 9
th.
