GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University men's basketball team fell victim to Adams State University Friday evening in Paul Wright Gym, 93-91. The Mountaineers take on Fort Lewis College tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
 
The Mountaineers had a chance to tie the game with the clock going down. Senior Danny Hopkins drove the lane for a layup, but was blocked with a second left.
 
Hopkins recorded his first double-double of the season with a game-high 13 boards and 16 points. He was three assists shy of a triple-double.
 
Ben Beauchamp led the team with 18 points. He was five of 11 from deep. Tom Folsom added 17 points and six boards. The big man was seven of nine from the line. James Thomas chipped in 10 points.
 
For the Grizzlies, point guard Shakir Smith led with 34 points. He had four assists and five steals. Joe Bell Austin added 16 points, while DJ Morgan had 10.
 
Adams outscored Western 51-26 in the paint and 17-2 in fastbreak points.
