LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Despite
Danny Hopkins' season-high 29 points, Western State Colorado University men's basketball team fell to New Mexico Highlands University Friday evening, 74-98, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup. The Mountaineers travel to Silver City to take on Western New Mexico University tomorrow evening.
Hopkins led the Mountaineers with 29 points on 11 field goals. He also had a team-high nine boards and three steals.
Robert Romero provided eight points and as many boards, while
Will Duggan had a game-high seven assists.
The Cowboys had 40 points in the paint, led by Marlon Johnson's 28. Johnson also had eight boards and four blocks in the game. His teammate Jonathon Mines put up 25 points and had three steals. Kendrick Nichols chipped in 17 points as Highlands led from the start.
