GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western State Colorado University men's basketball team fell to Texas A&M University Commerce Friday afternoon in the Maverick Invitational in Grand Junction, 77-62. Western State takes on Webber International tomorrow for the final non-conference game.
After battling 34-32 in the first half, Commerce took a second half lead to extend the lead and take the game. Jeremy Jones led all scorers with 18 points.
Robert Romero led all Mountaineers with 15 points. He made six shots from the field and three from beyond the arc. He also had a team-high seven boards and a block.
Will Duggan added 14 points and three assists.
The Mountaineers shot well in the first half, making 35 percent from downtown and 40 percent from the field. In the second half, Western made 18 percent from the arc. The Mountaineers only found their way to the foul line seven times, a season-low.
