VB | Mountaineers drop match to Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The Western State Colorado University women's volleyball team fell victim to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Regis University (25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16) in four sets Friday evening in Denver. The Mountaineers head north to take on the Eagles of Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska Saturday evening at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers (4-12, 2-4 RMAC) played hard with the Rangers (7-7, 4-1 RMAC), holding their opponents to just .044 in hitting percentage in the second set. Despite strong defense, Western State struggled to find offense and eventually fell to Regis in two straight sets after the break.

Jordan Eatwell led all Mountaineers with a dozen kills. She also had 11 digs and three block assists. Tori Gaherty chipped in nine kills. Despite the lower number of kills, setter Allison Walker still dished out 35 assists along with a pair of aces and 13 digs.

Defensively, Avery Burkholder and Amanda Maestas continued their front and back dominance. Burkholder had five total blocks, while Maestas had a team-high 25 digs.

A trio of Rangers stumped the Mountaineers with double-digit kills, led by Maggie Steward's 17 kills. Rachael McCue had a dozen, while Katie Klein put down 11.
