GUNNISON, Colo. – Freshman
Randi Yarnell reset two school records today as Western State Colorado University toppled Colorado College, 201-91, Saturday in Colorado Springs. Western State hosts No.23-ranked Colorado Mesa next Friday for its first home meet of the season. First event is set for 4 p.m.
Yarnell, a freshman from Idaho Falls, Idaho, won the 200 free and placed second in the 100 fly, both new school records. Yarnell's 200 time is the story of the meet, as she swam three seconds faster than she did in the last meet. Her time, 1:55.82, with altitude adjustments would place her tied for fifth in the nation in last week's national results.
The Mountaineers had 10 individual winners and a relay in the victory.
Frances Ivers started things off with a win in the 1,000 free, an event she is ranked 26
th in the nation. After Yarnell won the 200, Sam Martin won the 100 back and
Akemi King won the 200 fly. King also won the 500 free, posting a time of 5:15.61 which is good for 25
th in the nation.
Ariel Fitch was the other two-event winner, winning both the 50 free and 100 free.
Flynn Guerrieri won the 200 breast, and
Ma'alaea Lawrence won the 200 IM. Also
Alexandra Marsolek won the 100 breast.
The final victory was in the 400 free relay. The team of Yarnell,
Kate Hewson, Fitch and
Morgan Aragon bettered their opponent by more than five seconds.
