ALAMOSA, Colo. – Western State Colorado University took down another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent in dominant fashion Saturday morning in Alamosa. The Mountaineers outscored the Grizzlies 152 to 51, a day after nearly doubling up CSU-Pueblo. Both teams were ranked higher than Western State in the preseason coaches' polls.
The Mountaineers won nine of eleven events, the 200 medley relay, 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 500 freestyle and 200 free relay.
The 200 medley team of
Randi Yarnell,
Alexandra Marsolek,
Danielle Ginsburg and
Kate Hewson started things off for the Mountaineers. Yarnell would also win the 200 freestyle, coming within half a second of the school record. Yarnell and Hewson were also on the winning 200 freestyle relay with
Morgan Aragon and
Ariel Fitch.
Other individual winners were
Frances Ivers in the 1000 freestyle, Ginsburg in the 400 IM,
Akemi King in the 100 fly and 500 freestyle,
Flynn Guerrieri in the 200 breaststroke and
Hannah Meehan in the 200 backstroke.
The Mountaineers take this week off and return to action Oct. 24, at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
