COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After getting behind early, Western State Colorado University men's basketball made a heroic second half comeback against No. 2 UC-Colorado Springs Friday night. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, the comeback didn't amount to a win as Western fell to the undefeated Mountain Lions, 86-72.
Four Mountaineers managed to score in double figures Friday night, despite the team losing. Led by
Mason Biddle's (Sr., Riverside, California) 17 points, Western managed to stay with the Mountain Lions for much of the game. Western's other three players to score over 10 points were
Devin Kastrup (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) who added 14 points,
Alex Eddy (Jr., Phoenix, Arizona) who added 12 points and
Danny Hopkins (Jr., Riverside, California) who added 11.
After a Hopkins three-point field goal, Western cut the UCCS lead to four points with a little under seven minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Mountain Lions would end the half on a 21-5 run to take a 49-29 lead into halftime.
Despite Western outscoring UCCS in the second half 43-37, the comeback was not enough as the Mountain Lions remained undefeated.
Western continued to shoot well from beyond the arc Friday night. The Mountaineers hit 10 three-point field goals on 22 attempts (45.5 percent).
Friday night's game was a part of UC-Colorado Springs' Downtown Classic. The game was played at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium in downtown Colorado Springs.
The Mountaineers will continue the road trip Saturday night when they face CSU-Pueblo at 7:30 p.m. in Massari Arena.
