GUNNISON, Colo. - After keeping the score within one possession for much of the first half, Western State Colorado University was unable to keep pace with Metro State University Denver Saturday night. The Roadrunners defeated the Mountaineers 73-50.
Western (3-14, 2-11 RMAC) led for the first 3:34 of the game against MSUD (16-3, 11-2 RMAC). Despite the Roadrunners taking the lead, the Mountaineers stayed close with MSUD for most of the first half. The Roadrunners would go on a late run and take a 32-19 into halftime.
In the second half, both teams began hitting shots from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers' offensive deep threat was led by
Keenan Prochazka (Jr., Moose Pass, Alaska). Prochazka scored 10 points in the game, all of which came in the second half.
After being held to 19 points in the first half, Western scored 31 in the second. However, MSUD scored 41 to defeat Western 73-50.
Western was led in scoring by
Devin Kastrup (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado). Kastrup scored 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.
MSUD's Mitch McCarron led all players in scoring with 25 points.
The Mountaineers will continue the season next weekend on the road against Colorado Christian University and Colorado School of Mines.
