LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Two Western State Colorado University men's basketball players scored over 20 points Friday night against Colorado Christian University. However, it wasn't enough for the Mountaineers to defeat CCU on the road. Western fell to the Cougars 85-79.
Just one point separated Western (3-15, 2-12 RMAC) and CCU (10-10, 7-7 RMAC) at the half. The Cougars held a one-point lead, 37-36 after the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, Western's offense shifted into a higher gear as the Mountaineers shot 56 percent (14-of-25) from the field in the second stanza. This accounted for most of Western's 43 second half points.
Unfortunately for Western, CCU's offense also got hot in the second half making 14 field goals on 28 attempts (50 percent). The Cougars scored 48 points in the second half.
The duo of
Devin Kastrup (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) and
Mason Biddle (Sr., Riverside, California) accounted for 45 of Western's 79 points Friday night. Kastrup scored a game high 24 points and grabbed a game high nine rebounds, while Biddle added 21 points.
Dominique Wright (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) and
Danny Hopkins (Jr., Riverside, California) each scored in double figures for the Mountaineers. Wright scored 10 points, while Hopkins put away 12 points.
The Cougars were led in scoring by Tyler Shields, who dropped 16 points.
Western will continue the season against Colorado School of Mines on Saturday in Golden, Colorado.
