GUNNISON, Colo. - A furious second half comeback wasn't enough for Western State Colorado University men's basketball to defeat Regis University Friday night.  The Mountaineers fell to the Rangers 76-67 in Gunnison.

It was a tale of two halves for Western (3-13, 2-10 RMAC) Friday night.  After scoring 26 points in the first half, the Mountaineers made 11-of-25 field goals in the second half and scored 41 points.

Western's second half surge was due in large part to Danny Hopkins' (Jr., Riverside, California) 19 points.  Hopkins scored 16 of those points in the second half on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

Regis (5-11, 3-9 RMAC) and Western played a closely fought first half, but the Rangers ended with a 10 point lead at the break.

Despite Western's second half efforts, the Rangers scored 40 points in the second half, 22 of which came from the free throw line as the Mountaineers tried to extend the game.

Hopkins led the team in scoring and rebounds with nine, while teammates Mason Biddle (Sr., Riverside, California) and C.J. Schutt (Jr., Yorkville, Illinois) each scored in double figures.  Biddle added 11 points and Schutt scored 10.

Regis' Kevin Marshall led all players with 21 points.

The Mountaineers will face Metro State University Denver Saturday night in the second game of the home stand.
