ALAMOSA, Colo. - Western State Colorado University men's basketball faced rival Adams State University Saturday night.  The Mountaineers were unable to get the best of their rivals, falling to Adams State 67-100.

Western (2-7, 1-4 RMAC) took an 8-5 lead after the first 2:20.  Mountaineer Danny Hopkins (Jr., Riverside, California) scored all eight of those points.  Hopkins led the Mountaineer scoring attack on Saturday with 17 points.

At the 15:52 mark, ASU (4-3, 1-3 RMAC) took the lead.  It would be a lead the Grizzlies wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game.

Hopkins helped keep the Mountaineers within striking distance in the first half.  Western went into halftime down 10 points, 44-34.  Hopkins scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half.

Hopkins and three other Mountaineers scored in double figures on Saturday.  Mason Biddle (Sr., Riverside, California) made 11-of-12 free throws, scoring 15 points for Western, while Alex Eddy (Jr., Phoenix, Arizona) added 14 and C.J. Schutt (Jr., Yorkville, Illinois) contributed 10 points.

ASU's Juwan Buchanan led the game in scoring with 29 points.

The Mountaineers will continue the season Sunday against Fort Lewis College.  The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. from Whalen Gym.
