LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Western State Colorado University battled New Mexico Highlands University Friday night. The Mountaineers went down early but fought back, winning the third set. However, the Cowgirls proved too much in the fourth set and took the match 3-1.
After dropping the first set 25-19 and the second 25-15, Western (0-15, 0-11 RMAC) had its back against the wall. The Mountaineers played right with NMHU (9-12, 4-7 RMAC) in the third set and took a 23-19 late in the set. The Cowgirls came storming back, trying to sweep the Mountaineers in three sets and took a 24-23 lead. One point away from elimination, Western scored three straight points to take the third set 26-24.
Western used the momentum from the third set to keep the Cowgirls at bay. The Mountaineers found themselves in the lead late once again at 22-21. This set, it was NMHU that went on a late run to win, scoring the final four points and taking the set 25-22.

Jordan Eatwell (Fr., Fruita, Colorado) led all players in kills with 14. The freshman leads the Mountaineers in kills on the season with 122. Teammate
Allison Walker (So., Aurora, Colorado) led all players with 45 assists as Western's primary setter Friday night.
The Mountaineers continue the season Saturday with a match in Silver City, New Mexico against Western New Mexico University.
