PUEBLO, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's swimming and diving program defeated CSU-Pueblo for its first win of the season. The Mountaineers earned the first win of the season on the opening weekend after losing at Adams State University a day before.
Western defeated the ThunderWolves 144-61 on Sunday. The Mountaineers won both relays and seven other swimming events in Pueblo.
Western's
Akemi King (So., Hilo, Hawaii) won both the 1,000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. King finished the 1,000 yards in a time of 11:06.25 and the 500 yards in 5:24.13.
Mountaineers
Kate Hewson (Fr., Estes Park, Colorado),
Danielle Ginsburg (Jr., Reno, Nevada),
Kayla Sundada (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colorado),
Hannah Meehan (Fr., Aurora, Colorado), and Alex Marsolek (So., Frisco, Texas) all won events on Sunday. Hewson won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.88; Ginsburg won the 200 individual medley in 2:20.38; Sundada won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.40; Meehan won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.22; and Marsolek won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.54.
Western also won the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:13.86 and the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:50.12.
On Saturday, Western fell to rivals Adams State 122-83.
Frances Ivers (So., Plano, Texas) won the 1,000-yard freestyle against ASU. Ivers finished with a time of 11:29.83.
The Mountaineers will continue the season next Friday on the road at Colorado College.
