Steven Aldridge will be entering his third season as the Western State men’s basketball assistant coach with the onset of the 2018-2019 season.
In 2017-18, Aldridge helped the Mountaineers return to the RMAC Tournament for the first time since his own playing days in 2012.
No stranger to Western, Aldridge was a starting point guard for Western State in the 2011-12 season and 2012-13 season, in which he led the team in assists and was a team captain.
He made his way to Gunnison after spending two seasons playing for San Diego City College where he was a Pacific Coast All-Conference selection.
Aldridge averaged a career-high 13.4 points per game in his first season for San Diego City College. In his career at Western State, Aldridge averaged seven points per game, made 46 starts, and dished out more than 140 assists in two seasons.
Off the court, Aldridge was a member Big Brother in Gunnison, helping serve as a mentor to troubled youth in the area. He graduated in 2013 with his Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sports Science and was a member of the Dean’s list.
Aldridge returned to San Diego City College after graduation to work as a Services Mentor for first year college students. He also worked as the Assistant Coach for his old team, helping the team to a 41-19 record over two seasons. Aldridge was responsible for practice planning, recruiting, opponent scouting, as well running weight lifting and conditioning while coaching for the Knights.
This prior to his return to Western, Aldridge pursued his Master’s degree at Cal State University Los Angeles, where he was a volunteer assistant coach. He continues to pursue his Master’s degree while working for Western State.
