Seth Yates joined the Mountaineer men's basketball staff in July 2023.
Yates comes to Western Colorado from Carroll (Mont.) College, an NAIA institution that in the 2022-23 season earned the No. 3 seed in the Frontier Conference postseason tournament.
With the Fighting Saints, Yates was involved in on-court player development, recruiting, the program's strength-training program, while also assisting with the creation of practice plans and serving as the liaison for student-athletes' academic contacts.
Prior to joining Carroll he worked for two seasons as a graduate assistant and video coordinator at NCAA Division I Oregon State University. All video-related tasks for the program ran through Yates' office, including creating post-game edits and opponent scouting videos.
A 2020 graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in sport management, Yates over his senior year served as a student manager with the Aggies' men's basketball program.
Yates' coaching career began while as a student at A&M when he was the boys varsity assistant basketball coach for the Brazos Christian School in Bryan, Texas.
Highlights in Yates' coaching background include being part of Oregon State's 2021 Pac-12 tournament championship team that continued into an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament, and a district championship with Brazos Christian.
