Daniel Leeworthy

Daniel Leeworthy enters his fourth season as an Assistant Coach at Western State Colorado University.  During his tenure at WSCU, the Mountaineers have improved every season.  In 2011-12 the Mountaineers achieved their second best overall record in 13 years, made the conference tournament and had a signature win vs. the then #3 ranked team in the nation Metro State. 

Leeworthy’s responsibilities include recruiting, on floor coaching, practice planning, scheduling, player development, and basketball operations. 

In seven seasons as a Collegiate Basketball Coach, Leeworthy has built a reputation as a relentless recruiter.  The 2011 and 2012 recruiting classes are regarded as two of the best in school history. 

Before arriving at WSCU, Leeworthy spent two seasons at Ohio University as a graduate assistant under John Groce (currently head coach at the University of Illinois) and Tim O’Shea. His responsibilities included basketball operations, scouting, and video coordination. The Bobcats turned in a 35-30 combined record and earned a berth in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational in the 2008. In the summer of 2008, he served as director for the program's summer camps which boasted nearly 1,000 participants over 5 camps.

The Australian native started his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, BYU-Hawaii, where he was an assistant coach from 2005-07, both seasons the Seasiders finished second in the Pacwest Conference. In 2006-07, he helped guide the Seasiders to a 20-8 record and a spot in the NCAA Division II Tournament. He also coached then freshmen of the year Lucas Alves and winner of the Daktronics DII 2008-09 player of the year.

Leeworthy also has coaching experience in Prep basketball, having served as head coach of the Waverley Falcons in Australia.  He has coached at various camps across the country, including the Boston Celtics, BYU, Air Force, Ohio, and BYU Hawaii.

In addition to these feats Leeworthy has coached 13 collegiate players to go on to play professionally.                                                                                      

Leeworthy graduated from BYU-Hawaii with a degree in TESOL with a minor in Exercise and Sports Science, and a Master's Degree in Recreation and Sports Science: Coaching Education at Ohio University.

He and his wife, the former Lindsay Yamauchi of Hawaii, have two boys, Jaron and Madsen.
