Darin Higgins begins his third season with the Mountaineers in 2018. Higgins is Western's primary wide receivers coach.
In his first season, Higgins helped coach two Mountaineer wide receivers, Kyle Adkins and Anthony Apodaca, to All-RMAC Honorable Mention honors. Adkins also tied for the third most touchdown receptions in the conference.
Prior to Western, Higgins coached 12 years at the high school level in California. During this time he earned four league championships, two section titles and one state championship.
Most recently at Chavez High School in Stockton, California, Higgins coached the league's leading rusher during the 2015 season.
Higgins was also the head coach at Liberty Ranch High School in Galt, California for two seasons after spending the previous two as the co-defensive coordinator at Ripon High School in Ripon, California.
A defensive coordinator at Modesto Christian High School during the 2007-09 seasons, Higgins helped MCHSÂ to an undefeated 15-0 record, becoming the California Small School State Champion.
Higgins also coached at Lassen Union High School in Susanville, California during the 2003 season, where he helped LUHSÂ earn a CIF North Section Championship.
From 2000-02 Higgins was an offensive graduate assistant at the University of Southern Mississippi. There he assisted in coaching the wide receivers, helping the receiving corps set school records in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Higgins earned his graduate degree in sports administration from Southern Mississippi in 2003.
Higgins earned his bachelor degree in speech and communications from the University of Nevada in 2000. At Nevada, Higgins was a tight end and wide receiver for the Wolf Pack. He was twice named an All-Big West selection and in 1999 was a Preseason All-American.Â
