Saya Nets 1st Collegiate Goal Against Lady Chaps

GUNNISON, Colo.  Ohama Saya netted her first goal for Western Colorado women's soccer, scoring in the 36th minute of Thursday's 8-2 non-conference loss to visiting Lubbock Christian University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Western found itself in an early hole against the Lady Chaps, who scored two goals within the first 10 minutes then added two more by the 36th.
  • The Mountaineers pushed back, though, mounting pressure in its attacking third, resulting in Saya's score.
  • Deep in the box and center of the goal, Saya took a feed and hammered a shot that was saved, but not controlled, by LCU goalkeeper Emma Wright.
  • The rebound off Wright came back to Saya for a shot that made its way past Wright to put Western on the scoreboard.
  • The Lady Chaps added one just before the halftime break, then another soon after that break, but Jordan Welsh cut into that lead only 50 seconds later.
  • Taking a dish from Ava Odil near the end line to the right of the frame, Welsh knocked one past Wright for Western's final goal of the game.
TURF NOTES
  • Western goalie Addison Blick finished the game with five saves, while Wright earned the win for Lubbock Christian with four saves.
  • The Lady Chaps had the edge in shots on frame, 13-6, and in corner kick opportunities, 5-0.
