IRVING, Texas  The National Football Foundation (NFF) and the College Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday its list of semifinalists for the 2026 William V. Campbell Trophy®, a prestigious list that includes Western Colorado's Ian Loomis.

In all, 206 semifinalists from FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III, and NAIA programs advanced to the semifinal stage of the award process, a record number of student-athletes in the trophy's 37th year.

Nominated by each institution, a single nominee per program, the official release stated that "each candidate must be competing in the 2026 season as a senior in his final year of eligibility or a graduate student/graduate transfer who has already earned a degree; have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.20; have outstanding football ability a s a first-team player or significant contributor; and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship."

Loomis is one of 130 semifinalists serving as a captain for their respective team. He was named to the 2026 D2Football.com Elite 100 Watch List, following a 2025 season in which he was voted to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® first team, to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference first-team defense, and to the second-team RMAC All-Academic Team.

Of the list of named semifinalists, Loomis is one of only 19 DII players, one of only 4 RMAC players, and one of 82 defensive players on the list.

Twelve to 16 finalists will be announced by the NFF on October 21, each receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2026 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One member of the group of finalists will be announced as the winner of the 37th Campbell Trophy® at an awards ceremony attended by all the finalists in Las Vegas, Nev., on Dec. 8.
