GUNNISON, Colo. The Western Colorado women's volleyball team welcomed Colorado Mesa University to Paul Wright Gym on Tuesday night, where the Mountaineers battled throughout the match but ultimately came up just short against the Mavericks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountaineers faced an early deficit in the opening set as Colorado Mesa took control from the start. Western battled back late in the frame, but the comeback fell short as the Mavericks claimed the first set, 25-18.
- Western continued to battle in the second set, staying within striking distance throughout the frame. Colorado Mesa created a small advantage midway through the set, but the Mountaineers remained within reach until the final points. The Mavericks ultimately secured the second set by the same 25-18 score to take a 2-0 lead.
- Maggie Legg led the Mountaineers offensively with a team-high nine kills, while Sierra Long added seven. Anuhea Ka'alele paced the offense with 14 assists, and Olivia Moore contributed nine assists.
- The third set featured a back-and-forth battle, with Western holding the lead for much of the frame. Colorado Mesa mounted a late run and edged the Mountaineers, 25-22, to complete the three-set victory.
- Defensively, Galatia Andrew once again led Western with 16 digs, while Legg added five digs from the back row.
