INDIANAPOLISÂ On Wednesday evening the NCAA released its official list of invitations to the 2026 Division II Swimming & Diving Championships, a prestigious list that includes Western Colorado's
Morgan Nielsen.
This will be the third consecutive women's championship trip for Nielsen, who will swim all three events in which she already holds Western's team records.
Nielsen qualified for the 2026 championship with her NCAA B provisional and season-best time of 17 minutes, 28.02 seconds in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship meet.
With the altitude adjustment from the elevation in Grand Junction, Colo., her sixth-place time at the meet translates to 17:08.02 (at sea level) and will enter the NCAA meet as the No. 20 seed in the event.
Nielsen at the RMAC meet raced to NCAA B provisional times in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events, which she will also swam at the national meet. Her 500 free time of 5:02.04 is seeded 38th, and her 1,000 free time of 10:15.46 is seeded 28th.
Nielsen scored 83 points for the Mountaineers at the RMAC championships, placing her 19th on the overall High Points list.
The national meet begins on Tuesday, March 10 with one relay event.
Nielsen will swim in the morning heats of the timed final 1,000 free on Wednesday, March 11, and then in the preliminary heats of the 500 free on Friday, March 13.
She will conclude her meet on Saturday morning, March 14 in her timed final heat of the 1,650 free.
