LAKEWOOD, Colo. Western Colorado limited Oklahoma Christian to just a pair of shots on goal, but the Eagles earned a 1-0 victory over the Mountaineers off a first-half deflection that was the non-conference game's only score in a neutral-site game at Lakewood Memorial Field.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Oklahoma Christian def. Western Colorado, 1-0
Records: Western 0-2, Oklahoma Christian 1-1
Location: Lakewood Memorial Field, Lakewood, Colo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western had the first four shots of the game through 12 minutes of first-half action, with OCU goalkeeper Breanna Wooten called into play to stop three of them, including two within 12 seconds of each other.
- The Eagles' Ruta Andrews sent a through ball from midfield that teammate Sophie Placke collected high in the box in the early moments of the 14th minute. Placke drove toward the left post with Mountaineer goalie Teagan Anna drifting with her.
- Placke's shot was back across the goal but as Anna slid that way to make the save, the shot caromed off a Mountaineer defender's foot back behind Anna and just inside the left post.
- The deflected goal proved to be the game-winner after neither team would find the goal netting over the remaining 76 minutes of action.
GAME NUMBERS
- Western would finish the game with an 8-2 shots on goal advantage and a 9-4 edge in corner kick opportunities.
- The Mountaineers would spend 72 percent of their possession time in their attacking half of the field, including 33% from within the top of the arc, but OCU's Wooten was able to thwart each shot Western would put on frame.
- Seven different Mountaineers would register a shot on goal, paced by two from forward Adah Minikel-Lacocque.
