Juelfs Hits Milestone Versus Cougars

Colorado Springs, Colo.,   The Western Colorado Men's Basketball team falls to Colorado Christian by a score of 69-61 on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Amar Rivers put WCU on the board first 2-0. CCU hit back-to-back shots to earn a 6-2 advantage. Junior Andrew Reichart drew a foul, knocking down two 6-4.
  • The following six-minutes were scoreless for the Mountaineers, allowing the Cougars to take a 17-4 edge. Sophomore Tyler Halligan stopped their run with a bucket in the paint 17-6. Junior Ty Buckmon traded scores with CCU 20-8.
  • WCU went on a small run to come back. Junior Christian Still hit a free throw, Reichart scored two consecutive buckets, senior Kade Juelfs and junior Jamel Hollins finished around the rim, cutting the deficit 20-17.
  • The Cougars finally added to their score after a three-minute drought 22-17. Juelfs hit a three, to earn is 1,000 career point, and put WCU down three. 23-20. A defensive board by Rivers allowed senior Trey Anderson to tie the game 23-23. The Cougars won the draw 25-23 with under five-minutes to play.
  • In the final minutes of the half, there were lead changes and ties, but CCU hit a few more shots to go into the locker room with a 29-27 edge.
  • WCU got called for multiple fouls to start the second, resulting in a Cougar lead 35-27. Freshman Dawlton Grant, Juelfs and Halligan got WCU within three 37-34. CCU missed a bucket then fouled, sending Still to the charity stripe 37-36.
  • The battle continued, the respective teams putting up points. CCU had a 54-46 edge with under five minutes to play. WCU got within six as Juelfs hit another three and Anderson sunk a free throw 56-50.
  • The competition came down to the very last second. Both teams battling for the victory. CCU was able to hold onto their lead to defeat WCU 69-61.
 
COURT NOTES
  • Juelfs led the Mountaineers with 13 points going 4-9 from the field, 3-6 from three and 2-4 from the charity stripe. Still and Anderson recorded 10 points. Still went 2-5 form the field and 6-7 from the free throw line. Anderson went 3-9 from the field, 3-8 from three and 1-2 from the free throw line. Reichart and Halligan followed with 7 points each. Rivers, Buckmon and Grant finished with 4.
  • Juelfs led the Mountaineers in assists with 3. Hollins, Rivers and Still each contributed 2. Reichart and Anderson ended with 2 steals.
  • Hollins and Reichart paced WCU with 6 boards. Juelfs, Halligan and Grant respectfully grabbed 5.
  • WCU shot 31.4% from the field, 22.7% from three and 69.2% from the free throw line.
