HOW IT HAPPENED
Western Colorado opened the game with an early scoring burst, sparked by
Aidan McDowell's layup and transition three, followed by tough finishes from
Tyler Halligan and
Joanis Koulisianis to seize the first momentum swing. The Mountaineers built their next series off defensive pressure, turning steals into quick points as McDowell and Halligan ran the floor to push the lead into double digits.
Another big run came when Koulisianis threw down a dunk, McDowell scored three straight times—including a transition three—and
Quincy Scott added a fastbreak layup to stretch the advantage.
Dawlton Grant powered through the lane for back-to-back finishes, helping Western close the first half up 47–36.
Early in the second half, Western struck again with a Kuac three-point play, a Koulisianis layup, and a McDowell jumper to re-establish control. Later, Scott drilled a three, McDowell scored again inside, and Kuac added a jumper to halt a TAMIU push. Western closed it out with steady buckets from Halligan, McDowell, and Scott, securing the 84–78 win through timely scoring series all game long.
