HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western Colorado opened the game by overcoming an early 3–0 Midwestern State lead with an 8–0 run fueled by two threes from Jordan Kuac and a transition layup from Aidan McDowell.
- After MSU trimmed the margin with a three, Western responded with another 7–0 surge that included a Kuac dunk and a McDowell three, pushing the lead to 15–6. Midwestern State countered with a 5–0 run of its own, but Western kept the advantage as Tyler Halligan knocked down a three and added a layup in transition.
- A 6–2 stretch featuring a Mottashed three and Shelia's tip-in and free throw extended the lead to 28–19 before MSU answered again with two 28-21. Western extended the lead 32-21.
- Another Mottashed three helped Western climb back ahead by seven, and a free throw by Halligan made it an eight-point game. Midwestern State finished the half strong with a burst, but McDowell's late layup helped Western go into halftime up 42–36.
- Early in the second half, Midwestern State clawed back, eventually making it a five-point game 45-40. Western regained control briefly going up 55-48. Â
- The teams traded scores until MSU went down by one 76-75 with just over three minutes remaining. From there, Western closed strong, securing the 82–78 victory.
COURT NOTES
McDowell led with 23 points, 8 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Halligan contributed 21 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Two other mountaineers finished in double-digits: Kauc 18 and Mottashed 10.
