GUNNISON, Colo. The Mountaineers will play at Paul Wright Gym on Friday, February 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 for their final home games of the season. The team will face the Regis Rangers Friday night for a 7 p.m. tip off then will welcome the Mountain Lions of University Colorado Colorado Springs to Gunnison, Colo., Saturday night for a 5 p.m. start time.
Fans are encouraged to wear black on Friday night as the basketball programs will have a blackout night. On Saturday, the men's basketball program will honor its three seniors – Jaelan McCloud, Jonathan McCloud and Avery Rembao – as they play their final home game at Paul Wright Gym. During halftime Saturday, fans will be treated to a Lion Dance performance from Western Colorado's Asian Pacific Islander Club as they celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Western Colorado has not faced Regis this season but are looking for their second consecutive win against the Rangers after a road win last season. The Mountaineers are looking for redemption against the Mountain Lions after an 83-60 loss on the road earlier this season.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- Western Colorado (9-15, 6-12 RMAC) split its weekend with a win against Adams State and a loss to Fort Lewis. Kade Juelfs led the Mountaineers with 19 points against the Grizzlies, going 6-for-11 from the field and 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Against Fort Lewis, Amar Rivers led the Mountaineers with 11 points shooting 57% (4-for-7) from the field.
- Juelfs continues to lead the Mountaineers' offensive efforts scoring 13.4 points per game with 49-percent shooting from the field. Throughout conference play, Juelfs has averaged 14.3 points per game while shooting 43% from beyond the arc and 50-percent shooting from the field.
- Tyler Halligan has made an impact in his first season as a Mountaineer, averaging 7.2 points per game while shooting 46-percent from the field in 19 games.
- Even though he has played in just 15 games, Jamel Hollins leads the Mountaineers defensive efforts with 5.9 rebounds per game. Against conference opponents he has averaged 5.1 boards per game. Andrew Reichart has also played a large role in Western Colorado's rebounding game as he has 4.1 rebounds per game. Juelfs and Xavier Harris lead in steals with 21 and 20 steals this season, respectively.
- Amar Rivers has been a blocking machine this season recording 19 blocked shots this season with a career-high four blocked shots at Chadron State (Dec. 9) earlier this season.
REGIS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- The Rangers (13-12, 10-9 RMAC) are also coming off a split weekend as they faced South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State last weekend. Regis started its weekend off with an 82-68 against South Dakota Mines after Chase Mayo Harmon and Eddy Egun both registered 19 points. As a team, the Rangers shot 58-percent from the field and 31-percent from 3-point range. Against Black Hills State, Egun led his team with 17 points while three players scored 10 points each in the 75-63 loss. Tarig Eisa led the team in rebounds with 11 against the Yellow Jackets.
- Mayo Harmon leads the Rangers with 16.2 points per game, while Egun has registered 12.5 points per game. As a team, Regis has averaged 74.6 points and held their opponents to an average of 72.8 points per game.
- Eisa leads the Rangers with 4.8 rebounds per game and followed by Ty Cox with 4.2 rebounds per game. Trey Bryant has registered 31 steals this season, while CJ Reed is right behind him with 30. Eisa also has 35 blocks on the season, which leads the Rangers.
UCCS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- The Mountain Lions (11-14, 7-12 RMAC) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak after a pair of losses last weekend in South Dakota. Five players scored in double digits against Black Hills State led by Xavier Martinez who scored 15 points. Jesse Iweze registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Against South Dakota Mines, Iweze led the Mountain Lions with 19 points while five more players scored in double figures.
- The Mountain Lions took an 83-60 win over Western Colorado last time the two teams met with Iweze recording a game high 17 points and 6 rebounds. A trio of Mountain Lions – Noah Baca, Jayden Washington and Shareef Jaudon – all scored 13 points apiece in the contest.
- UCCS has four players who are averaging double digit points per game including Martinez and Iweze. Hannes Saar is averaging 10.3 points per game, while Mac Stodart averages 10.1 points per game to round out the Mountain Lions top-four scorers. William Becker leads UCCS' rebounding efforts with 8.9 rebounds per game, while Martinez has registered 28 steals this season.

The Mountaineers will play their final two games of the regular season on the road starting at Westminster University on Thursday, Feb. 29 for a 7 p.m. tip off. They will then go to Colorado Mesa on Sat., March 2 with a tip off slated for 7:30 p.m.
