Men's Basketball Opens Their Season In Oklahoma

Edmond, Okla.,   The Western Colorado Men's Basketball team opens their season on the road as they travel to Edmond, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Christian on Sun. Nov. 10 at 12:30 PM MT.
 
WESTERN COLORADO BASKETBALL GOING INTO THE GAME 
  • The Mountaineers are coming off two road exhibition contests, respectfully against Utah Valley University, and the University of Denver.
  • Zac Claus entering his second season as the Mountaineers' head coach returns eleven members of his squad with the addition of four.
  • WCU's top three scorers are back this season, senior Kade Juelfs (352 total - 13 ppg), sophomore Tyler Halligan (189 total - 8.2 ppg) and senior Amar Rivers (184 total - 6.6 ppg).  
  • Along with WCU's top scorers, the Mountaineers bring back top three rebounders junior Andrew Reichart (120 total - 4.3 rpg), senior Jamel Hollins (101 total - 5.3 rpg) and Rivers (101 total - 3.6 rpg).
  • The Mountaineers put up 57 points against UVU and 80 against DU.
  • Halligan led the team in points verses UVU with 10, followed by juniors Trevin Lieck and Ty Buckmon respectfully with 9. Lieck went 5-6 from the charity stripe while Buckmon contributed 4 assists and 4 steals. Hollins pulled down 5 defensive rebounds while Lieck and freshman Dalton Grant had 4-a-piece.
  • Rivers paved the way in the Denver game with 19 points, going 8-8 from the free throw line, 3 rebounds, a block and 3 steals. Halligan contributed 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals and a block. Senior transfer Trey Anderson ended with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Buckmon was another offensive contributor with 9 points, 3-3 from the line, and 4 assists. Juelfs put up 8 points with the addition of a rebound, assist and steal.
  • Grant led the team in rebounds with 6 while also recording two assists. Lieck finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds. Hollins also pulled down 4 boards.
OAKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN GOING INTO THE GAME
  • The Eagles are coming off an exhibition victory against Dallas Christian College 75-49.
  • Oklahoma Christian has eight newcomers, including six transfers, three of which played at the NCAA Division I level.
  • In the game against DCC, senior Tyrus Baynham paced the offense with 17 points, going 7-7 from inside the arch and 3-5 from the charity stripe. Behind him was senior Keyondre Young adding 12 points and 7 rebounds.
  • Senior Bryce Kennedy was just shy from a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds alongside 9 points.
  • OCU ended with 23 second chance points, 30 bench points and shot 44.4% from the field.
