HOW IT HAPPENED
- A service ace followed with 3 kills by senior Seyun Park awarded the Mountaineers an early 4-0 edge. Black Hill State snuck in a point 4-1 but kills from senior Kennedy Kelly, Park (2) and sophomore Kyra Kidd advanced the score 9-1. The Yellow Jackets kept adding scores here and there, but Western Colorado was dominating on both sides of the ball. The Mountaineers pushed their lead 22-10. Senior Nur Turkmenoglu and junior Olive Rolseth put WCU in position to win the first set 24-11. A service ace by sophomore Chinaru Inoue secured set one 25-11.
- The Yellow Jackets answered back to start the second set going up 4-1. The Mountaineers put up three to tie the set 4-4. The set was relatively even, the score saw multiple ties and lead changes. WCU took over after the 15-15 draw. Kills by Park, Kennedy and Rolseth moved the Mountaineers to a 22-18 edge. BHSU competed but Western Colorado was victorious 25-21.
- Set three was another battle, the rally saw numerous lead changes and ties. BHSU earned a 4-3 advantage but the Mountaineers went on a run to escalate their lead 11-5. Till the end points traded but WCU never dropped the lead. Two kills by Kennedy and an attack error on BHSU secured the win for the Mountaineers 25-18.
NET NOTES
- Park led the offense with 16 kills. Right behind her were Rolseth with 8, junior Pelin Aksoy with 7 then and Kidd and Kennedy respectively with 7 kills.
- Turkmenoglu set up the Mountaineers earning 38 assists while adding an ace, 4 kills, 4 digs.
- Leading the defense was Inoue with 16 digs followed by senior Myles Hilbert with 10.
